Hi everyone. If you live in NYC or going to be there before the end of the month (July), I read about an artist who has created large scale works of art that represent our consumption in the United States. Seattle-based artist Chris Jordan had an insight! People could not distill meaning from large scale facts, such as 426,000 cell phones are retired every day. So he created these works to demonstrate such things as: a 60 X 120 inch representation of two million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes, or a picture depicting 1.14 million brown paper supermarket bags, the number used in the US every hour.
The exhibition is at the Von Lintel Gallery in New York City. Being on the west coast for now, I would love to hear from someone who went. You can check it out at http://www.chrisjordan.com/current_set2.php
