Plannersphere

a place for planners

irene hargan

what moves you? unrelated to planning, but still very much on the subject

Everybody's so busy asking practical advice that it makes me feel tired.
Finding stimulating things and people, on the other hand, is energizing.
I've been nagging people all my life, asking them for what are their most recent 'discoveries' - nothing sensational, but deep down very important.
So if anybody wants to share some things that moved you recently, I'd be very grateful.
It can be anything - simple, complicated, new or old. And it better be not related to planning (because in the long run everything is).
Also: what was the last time you were really moved by something that you saw, heard or read?

I'd say one name for now - Tin Hat Trio. Try to find their music if you don't know them yet. Bittersweet. Beautiful.
Thank you,
irene/irina

Hmmn I'll have to have a think about more recent things.

However about 10 months ago I saw a video tribue on YouTube from one of the more active vloggers dedicated to a friend of hers who had died. It was a nice montage with a message over the pictures, with the song 'In The Sun' by Joseph Arthur. I hadn't heard the song before which helped.

Sadly it was taken down by the creator because it got spammed by a few people in the early YouTube community with fairly abusive comments which was a shame.

On a less serious note... the fairly new game Bioshock is quite moving in a weird way. Amazing story line.. and damn scary to boot. I heard from somewhere that part of it was inspired by a book called 'Atlas Shrugged' which recently received from Amazon. Didn't realise it was the size of an encyclopedia... but I'll get through it eventually.

Cheers

Sunsets over the Pacific and hiking mountain or canyon trails

Listening to Bob Marley, Jerry Garcia, Adam Duritz, DMB, Diana Krall or an old Weather Report Album

Going to an art museum, live jazz show, seeing brilliant architecture or viewing a great film

Snuggling with Mary (not a movie)

There's a whole load of things I could talk about that move me, however this never fails to make my whole body tingle... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA

I've been enjoying the (over hyped, but accurately so) world of second life. Been spending my evenings with the tv off for a change.. chatting with people around the world.. mostly small talk... But occasionally i've been involved in wonderful, interesting, philosophical, exchanges on the meaning of life... and other topics... the kind of conversations I used to have in college...

Love this idea. Thanks.

A photograph of my seven-year-old daughter, just before going in for surgery to repair a broken elbow. Afterwards, while viewing the picture with her, she said she was really scared — thing is, her bravery in light of a foreign situation really shined through in the image. Long story short, her innate courage inspired me.

The music of Radiohead, which I've recently gained an appreciation for, is inspiring

The public radio program Radio Lab never ceases to amaze me.

Thanks again for making me think about this.

One of my favourite poems:

Go
to the People
Live among them
Love them
Learn from them;
Start from where they are
Work with them
Build on what they have
. . .
But of the best leaders
When the task is accomplished
The work completed
The people all remark:
"We have done it ourselves"
