Planning Begins at 40: Crowd Source My Speech?

In July i am going to speak at an event hosted at JWT in London (along with Jeremy Bullmore, Jon Steel and others) celebrating 40 years of planning and looking ahead too.

I'm not sure I have anything new to say on the matter that I have been banging on about for some years. So... My idea is that instead of presenting my views I get 40 fellow planners from diverse backgrounds to help me put it together. I would open a blog and for the next 3 months we'd just talk about the brief (ie taking this as an opportunity just like any other for a piece of communication to have some sort of effect). We'd then write the presentation together, pick interesing visuals or creative ways to bring it to life, and finally write a speech which I would simply ead out on behalf of the team.

All of which depends on if this grabs 40 of you. I'm going to crosspost this on .ning plus the facebook planning groups and give it 1 week. If 40 people say they are interested then we have a project. (If not I'll have to think of something else!) Do say if you'd like to take part (first come first served) & add comments & ideas

perfect timing, I just had a meeting with the organisers on this today

what I plan to do is:
1. draft what I am planning to say
2. post it on that blog
3. get people's help/suggestions/ideas/builds that way

the original plan was we'd all spend months writing the thing, but life got in the way and in terms of comments on the blog it seemed to fizzle out a bit too

also I found out the speech is only 10mins or so, so I need to be really focused on saying one thing

anyway when I have got something sketched I'll let people know, we've still got 3 weeks to play with this

Do what I say, do what I do...as simple as the phrase!
It´s beautiful, John!

How can we work together to make a better planet?
Collaboration is the key, and ideas come up from everybody.
My contribution: Would be much better if we live in an environment with a universal software
where we can find everybody instead of talk only with facebookers, myspacers, msners.
We should segment in a psicographic way!!!

I´ll keep reading!

Alberto.

hello everyone

well with a week to go (and thank you for everyone's comments here and on the blog) I have finally got my act together tonight, written a draft and put it up on the blog

http://planningbeginsat40.blogspot.com/2008/07/my-draft-speech-comm...

it's pretty much what alberto is saying (about making a better planet)

at the end of the day I realised it was all that I still wanted to say to the assembled 'industry', after not only having said quite a bit in the past but also really having exited account planning (or at least working in ad agencies) almost 10 years ago

but see what you think, loads of time and scope for improvement
