Plannersphere

a place for planners

I´m a graphic designer (at least, thats what i studied for and used to do) working as a planner at a small ad agency in Brazil.

I got here at ning, started reading, talking to people, and saw that some refer to themselves as - or offer jobs opportunities for - a planner, or a strategic planner, or a strategist, or planner/strategist, a "plannery strategist type communications person" ... and so on.

So, my question is: What is the difference between a planner and a strategist? is there a difference?

In my experience they are one and the same, although some agencies that have multiple strategy people (such as digital, shopper marketing / retail, direct) have used the term strategic planner to denote a more business strategy focused planner versus account planner which is focused on a communication solution. But I'd say 9 of 10 times they are the same.
