YouTube started a new ad space, an expandable homepage ad, which is estimated to have 6.5million views a day. The advertisers will have to pay around £32,000 pay-per-click. With the recession right now (recession! that word again!), the relevance of where the ad is being used is more important than ever, if not the key issue, so all brands who need to reconnect with their younger and interactive consumers will HAVE to pay YouTube, (than spend any of their budget on other irrelevant media.) Brands like Nike are the first to jump on this media space already!
I think one of the main things YouTube changed in marketing is that it made most of the other media space pretty useless and irrelevant! Where else can you catch an 18 year old boy (or a 23 year old girl - me) EVERY DAY other than YouTube....?
I see a lot of mobile-downloads happening soon with this YouTube download application, as well as brands/music industry getting into it (just like iTunes, paying to download a music video maybe? Although I don't think many people will do that at all....).. I wonder if YouTube will soon enter into the online-sales market??
