Shopperholic? It's my dopamine neurons fault!

Perhaps this is the nueroscience Tipping Point. I'm currently learning about neuroscience, well neurologists anyway, as my grandma is seeing some experts to do with memory loss. Today, I read about Jonah Lehrer, the science writer those new book, The Decisive Moment: How the Brain Makes Up Its Mind. I read his Times… Continue

Social Media Marketing Is A Multicultural World

February 19, 2009

by Felipe Korzenny and Lee Vann

Social media is now ubiquitous. Usage of blogs, social networks, and video sharing sites is increasing rapidly, and millions of people now look to social media sites as their primary source of news, opinion, and entertainment. As we witness this dramatic shift from traditional to social media, we believe it’s important to examine its cultural dimensions - that is, who is driving this shift, what are the cultural factors… Continue

Sex used to sell, now it's porn.

What's this? hardcore porn on the (Mark)eting Stone blog.

I don't believe it?

So what have I (badly) removed with PhotoShop from the mouth of this tasty blonde?

Pizza! Of course! What did were you thinking?

Filthy.

Seems that sex no longer sells. Things moved on to using men to target women such as my blogpost on Givenchy… Continue

Former NiN Drummer Takes Album Promotion A Step Further

This is the way to make money whilst in the 'music' industry.

From Mashable

You know how Nine Inch Nails tie the digital goods (which can be duplicated ad infinitum) to scarce goods (merch, collector’s items, signed items, etc) to engage their audience and give them a chance to choose how much they’re willing to spend and what exactly they’re getting for their money?

Well,… Continue

Graffiti of Jade Goody makes political media comment

Just heard on the radio, the PM Gordon Brown saying that Jade's partner will be let out of prison to marry Jade on the weekend. She hasn't got long to live due to terminal cancer and she's selling her life to generate cash 'for her children when she's gone'. The controversy is pretty high on the UK media and news agendas.

Bacardi's Groove Armada 'sharing' experiment, free tracks for clicking the widget

I'm evaluating Bacardi's big ask to 'share' free music from the very respectable dance act Groove Armada. I signed up for a free 'exclusive' very average GA track called Go. I've played it out a few times and had a lukewarm response. There are other 'exclusive' 'free' tracks to collect by being an over-enthusiastic online sharer. They ask you to use one of the 3 methods below for sharing.

1) The widget (below) for blogs or MySpace… Continue

"Who will be bad - Who will be sad - Who will be great"

Jeg har aldri vært spesielt opptatt av American Idol.

Norske Idol derimot har jeg vel fått med meg en 60-70% av. Go Kurt!

Continue

Ego's unite for War Child

When Brandon Flowers of The Killers, Bono of U2, Chris Martin of Coldplay and Gary Barlow of Take That join to sing a song that's pretty special. Just as mash-ups happen digitally they also happen in the real world, normally when charity is involved. The Times, have dubbed this quartet who performed at the Brits awards 2009 yesterday as 'The perfect boy band'.

You can see a camera phone quality version below. The poor quality is due… Continue

Following up my blog post on Coke Zero a few weeks back when I commented on it's success in Croatia (and it's failings in the UK). Today, I bring you another beverage I enjoyed whilst in Croatia, due to it's harmless child orientated Fanta/Tangoness but with some… Continue

Tactical marketing at it's most simple, without devaluing the brand by price dropping or promotional offers.
Did I go in?
No, I went to Gournet Burger Kitchen over the road with a 2 for 1 voucher!

KitKat website is a lie!

The KitKat site http://www.thefirstworldwidewebsitewerenothinghappens.com is a site to respond to the multi-portal-web2.0-d everything sites that demand your attention. The site is what it says on the tin, the the URL anyway. Apart from it's not, as after it frustratingly loads, it tells you the time!

Useful for when you don't have a watch or the internal battery on… Continue

Vintage aged analogue favicons

I spotted these on the Coachella festival site. Nice to see how the distressed aged vintage look works with these web 2.0 favicons. We are used to the visual standardisation of digital logos that aren't required to exist in the analogue world. Rather than seeing a real world object, for example, on some Levi's clothing, you'll see the effect of physical environments have on logo's which form part of the… Continue

New Google-maps mash-up site: Reyooz

Another day, another Google maps mash-up. This time it's another charity shop-chic/ freecycle style site to unload random stuff. But for free. However, the eBay and Lootability of a take (rather than swap) action means that i'm not sure how karma free this will be.

Check it out Reyooz here.

Recycle, Reuse,… Continue

Cajun Squirrel crisps? Walkers never flavour-matched squirrel marinated in cajun spice

Cajun Squirrel crisps? Lots of column and blog inches on this topic.

Walkers or AMV BBDO (their ad agency) never flavour-matched squirrel marinated in cayenne, chili, thyme, mustard, salt, garlic, pepper & paprika. Phone the Advertising Standards Authority!

I used to work at AMV and get to try the Walkers experimental flavours, wrapped in unmarked silver versions of a crisp packet they contained oil and salt saturated… Continue

Brands Reunited

Cash-strapped ITV puts Friends Reunited up for sale. The Guardian reported that Friends Reunited is up for sale. City analysts say it's worth £20m, think they'll get £20 for it. That's about the same price it was to message someone on the site (until recently). Friends Reunited made an error with effectively them being the first social network, but they made… Continue

When do you axe a brand? Or just rebrand

From Marketing magazine. I never knew PriceWaterhouseCoopers rebranded themsevves as 'Monday'. And then though, err, no. Let's stick with PwC, it's taken that long for people to work out "uppercase-lowercase-uppercase and that house is the second part of Water.."

This, along with KPMG's corporate… Continue

Adobe Media Player to challenge iTunes?

The new Adobe Media Player is in the infancy stage. At version 1.6 it's available to download from here. The software interface suggests a bridge between Apple's QuickTime of TV/show type stuff but with a navigation of the iTunes browser. It also seems to have a bit of BBC iPlayer graphics in the mix and even a hint of the stunted Project Kangaroo. Basically it's a TV/movie/video content… Continue

It is understood that the characters are likely to sing a song… Continue
