I decided to leave account management when it became apparent that the only tasks I really liked doing were competitive/industry analysis, writing briefs, listening to consumers praise/complain about my Client's products and discussing the state of the work with the creatives. Don't get me wrong, I was quite good at doing the other tasks, which is evident in the fact that I became a Senior Account Executive after only 2 1/2 years in the biz. I probably would have made an excellent Account Supervisor - Management Supervisior - Group Account Director. I probably could have been the next black Shelly Lazarus or Susan Gianinino (two women I admire and respect) but I most likely would have died of some crazy disease that you get as a result of being miserable. So, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to quit trying to be what I was not and become what I and every creative I have ever worked with knew I was - a planner (that or an art director but I think those creatives were on something). Getting there is going to be hard (that I have been warned) but nothing this great comes easy....
