Hi Jacob,
Not really. I am still looking to find some experience in the States first. Which part of Malaysia are you in currently?

It has definitely had its ups and downs. There is some really good work that gets done out here, but economically right now the industry is very anemic.

What people fail to realize is with a population of about 1.3 million, we're close to Minneapolis in population size. The challenge is the isolation. Unlike being on the mainland, the majority of the work we do is either regional brands or local companies marketing within the state. There are a few brands -- like hotels -- that have a regional presence that markets to the mainland, but very few.

Typically the business in Hawaii stays in Hawaii, and rarely do new business opportunities from the mainland include Hawaii agencies due to distance.

Hello Jacob! How is it doing over there?
So, in here things are fine as well.
Due to the crisis there was a tough moment around here. But things seem to be a bit optimistic. If I were you I'd certainly give it a try.
Get in touch with some people and so on.
For interesting people and available opportunities there exist no crisis at all.
:D

Hi Jacob,

To answer your question...
I believe very agencies are hiring at the moment and some are actually laying off people.

hi jacob. if you can demonstrate a real passion for planning & for great communications, you'll eventually get a break wherever you really want whether that's in media, digital or 'above' the line. Just stick at it! Also check out stuff like winning APG papers, Cannes winners, D&AD winners, and have a point of view on what makes really great thinking - every agency is hungry for hungry people.
Good luck
Dom

Hiiii,

I did work in between but not at an agency. I worked at a Ballet company. If you can get into an agency to work first, I say do it! But if you can't attending the Brandcenter is a great way to make contacts and get your foot in the door.

Best of luck!

Hi Jacob,

Here in Brazil the agencies don't have the culture of bringing great international professionals to work here. The thing is opposite here, in the most cases brazilians go abroad.

The agencies languages is portuguese, but i don't think this is a issue for a guy like you, because almost everyone speaks english.

Cheers,

Rafael Paes

Hi Jacob!

We have very good brands here. We are doing great things.
The Brazilian marketing is growing fast, specifically in the digital area, but RMG is one of few digital agencies that have a real planning department. We are fighting to disseminate the planning importance over the market.

See you!

Hey Jacob

I think any agency would gladly take on an international junior planner. Though remuneration could be an issue since Indian advertising isn't known for the pay :)

Why don't you think about this and if you're really keen I could have a word with people at my agency. Might work.
