Getting a 1 year holiday visa is easy and you get it before you head over direct from the aussie immigration bods. Many agencies over here will sponsor, which means you can stay for up to 4 years. So you just finish probabtionary period on your holiday visa then get sponsored. however there are loads of short term contracts if you just want a bit of work and then travel around, so many aussies go overseas meaning there is a bit of a shortage of staff.
Depending on what you want to do I would try and apply direct before you come over. Recruitment consultants are slack over here. However some good ones are La Volta for anything digital, Sandy Oldham for strategy/planning (although I would go direct as the community is quite small) and Aquent for account service.
Hope that helps and give us a shout if you need any more advice
I see you made the move from the UK to Sydney, Im planning on moving over in Mid-September. Have you got any words of wisdom? Ive been looking to get the 1 year work holiday visa that allows you to work in a company for upto 6 months...did you get one straight from your company?
ciao, Jacob

Hey Carl, dont feel left out down there in Southampton try this and invite some others there too. Why not take a look at my UK Advertising 'SOCIAL' media site http://mediastarz2.ning.com soon to be renamed www.mediastarz.co.uk and join the growing crowd there. You'd be very welcome.
